A routine traffic stop for a speeding ticket issued by radar turned into a police chase. When the pursuit ended the driver was arrested for numerous charges including cocaine trafficking.

A St. Petersburg man has been charged with two felony counts for causing a fatal accident in Tampa Bay. The 27-year-old is also facing drug possession charges.

DUI Manslaughter Trial Begins In North PortRonald Judson Smith is on trial for eight charges stemming from an alleged drunk driving accident that killed a 7-year-old girl. According to police, Smith was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI when he ran a red light and crashed into a Ford Mustang. Smith is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage, possession of illegal prescription drugs, driving while suspended, failure to submit to a breath test and other charges.
According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, witnesses to the fatal accident saw Smith throw beer cans and prescription bottles into the woods near the scene of the accident. The Port Charlotte man is facing up to 67 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. Sarah-Dian Heineman died 10 days after the crash. … April 19, 2010
Sarasota Reckless Driver Ends Up Dead Following High-Speed ChaseRonald Daly was stopped in Sarasota on Beneva Road after police received a report of a reckless driver. The 50-year-old may have been issued a traffic ticket but he sped away before Sarasota County Sheriff’s could write him a citation. That led to a high-speed chase and ultimately to Daly’s death.
According to a story in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Daly was stopped at 11:30 p.m. but he sped away. During the high speed chase Daly lost control of his 2010 Chevy and crashed into a tree. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. There have been no details as to why police believe Daly fled the scene. He was driving erratically but there has been no mention of a drunk driving charge or an outstanding arrest warrant that may have caused him to flee. …

St Pete Red Light Runners Get Ready For Cameras At Your IntersectionsRed light runners in St Pete better get used to fines and not being able to fight those red light tickets as the city council has voted 7-1 to install red light cameras in St Petersburg.

Speeder Rams Truck Into Sarasota HouseThe driver of a truck suspected of speeding in Sarasota may have lost control of the pick-up before crashing into a Sarasota house. No charges have been filed in the car crash as of yet and the man driving the pick-up suffered serious injuries in the wreck Sunday night. Paramedics and firefighters had to work to remove the driver from the wreckage. A witness told the Sarasota Herald Tribune that he heard the truck speeding through the neighborhood but never heard anyone hit the breaks before the loud crash. Clearwater Police Stop Man For An Illegal U-Turn And He Dies During The Traffic StopClearwater police are working to curtail what is normally their highest-accident month by beefing up red light enforcement. That was the case Wednesday when they pulled over a man for making an illegal U-Turn. Moments later the driver’s 50-year-old son wasn’t breathing. The officer tried to revive the man as did paramedics in a Chick-Fil-A parking lot but they were unsuccessful. Tampa Driver Kills Pedestrian, Leaves The Scene And Then Returns With Her ParentsHillsborough County Sheriff’s thought they were investigating a hit and run Sunday evening when they were called to a fatal crash on Dakota Avenue in Tampa. The driver who ran over and killed Billy Leedan Ivy may not be charged with leaving the scene of an accident after she returned with her parents. Amanda Bentz has been identified as the driver that struck and killed Ivy at 9:30 Sunday. The 20-year-old asked to speak to investigators and reportedly told deputies she was the driver that struck the man who would have turned 43 today. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of yet.… |
